Benefits
What Are Dental Veneers?
A veneer is a thin, tooth-coloured shell bonded to the front surface of a tooth. It changes the colour, shape or length of the tooth while the tooth underneath stays in place. Veneers are most often used on the front teeth that show when you smile.
Veneers are usually made from porcelain or composite resin. Porcelain veneers are made in a dental laboratory and resist staining well. Composite veneers are built up directly on the tooth, usually in fewer visits and at a lower cost, but they can stain or chip more easily over time. Your dentist will explain which material suits your teeth and your goals.
Benefits of dental veneers
Covers stains that whitening cannot remove
Repairs chipped, worn or uneven teeth
Closes small gaps between teeth
Makes teeth look more even in shape and length
Shade-matched so the result looks natural
Porcelain veneers resist staining from tea, coffee and food
Veneers, whitening or bonding?
Veneers are not always the first answer. If your teeth are healthy and the problem is mainly colour, professional teeth whitening may be enough. A small chip can often be repaired with bonding in a single visit. Veneers make sense when you want to change the shape, size and colour of several teeth together. We will tell you honestly which option fits your case.
Veneers as part of a smile makeover
Veneers are often part of a wider smile makeover, which may also include whitening the other teeth or replacing old fillings and crowns. Planning everything together means the colours and shapes match. We set out the full plan, and the order of treatment, before you start.

Ideal Candidate
Who Needs Dental Veneers?
Veneers suit adults with healthy teeth and gums who want to improve how their front teeth look. They are a cosmetic treatment, so the decision is yours, but your dentist first needs to confirm that your teeth can support them.
Signs you may need it
Stains or discolouration that do not respond to whitening
Chipped, cracked or worn front teeth
Small gaps between the front teeth
Teeth that are uneven, too short or oddly shaped
Old fillings on the front teeth that have darkened
Mildly uneven teeth when you do not want orthodontic treatment
Veneers are usually placed on the teeth that show when you smile, most often the upper front teeth. Treating only one or two teeth is possible, but matching a single veneer to the natural teeth beside it needs extra care with the shade.
When it is not suitable
Veneers may not be advised when:
there is active tooth decay or untreated gum disease
too little healthy enamel is left on the tooth
you clench or grind your teeth heavily and it is not controlled
the teeth are badly crowded or the bite is significantly off
For crowded teeth or bite problems, braces or clear aligners are usually the better first step. In every case we will explain what needs treating first, or which treatment would work better.
Process Overview
The Dental Veneers Procedure at Dental Life
Porcelain veneers usually take two or more visits, with time in between for the laboratory to make them. Composite veneers can often be completed in a single visit. Your dentist will tell you how many visits your case needs.
Step 1: Consultation and diagnosis
We examine your teeth and gums, check your bite and talk about what you want to change. We take photographs and impressions or scans, choose the shade together, and explain the plan, the number of visits and the cost before treatment begins.
Step 2: The treatment
For porcelain veneers, a thin layer of enamel is usually removed from the front of each tooth so the veneer sits naturally, with local anaesthesia if needed. Impressions or scans are sent to the laboratory, and temporary veneers may be fitted while yours are being made. At the next visit, each veneer is tried in and checked for fit and colour, then bonded firmly to the tooth.
Composite veneers are shaped directly on the tooth with tooth-coloured resin, then hardened with a curing light and polished.
Step 3: Recovery and aftercare
There is no healing period after veneers. Your teeth may feel slightly sensitive for a few days. We check your bite and make small adjustments so the veneers feel comfortable.
Aftercare tips:
Brush twice a day and clean between your teeth daily
Avoid biting hard objects such as ice, pens or nutshells with your front teeth
Ask about a night guard if you grind your teeth
Come in for regular check-ups so we can check the veneers and your gums
